Let’s talk about one of the most important grape varieties, Garnacha<\/em><\/strong>. It has long been associated with the production of medium quality wines, but in recent years its history has changed a lot. A grape that has become a benchmark in both the domestic and international market<\/strong>, which has become fashionable and has conquered every self-respecting wine lover<\/em>.<\/p>\n


\n<\/p>\n

In Spain, it is the third<\/strong> most cultivated grape and the fifth most planted in the world<\/strong>. The wines made from this variety are characterized by being wines of high alcohol content, intense, round, fruity, medium acidity and very elegant<\/strong>. The wines are very attractive in color, very tasty and easy to enjoy<\/strong>. Versatility and longevity<\/strong> are other strengths. Five variations can be found: red<\/em>, white<\/em>, red, red, tintorera<\/em> and hairy<\/em><\/strong> and, as with other grape varieties, it receives different synonyms such as grenache, depending on the region.<\/p>\n


\n<\/p>\n

In this post<\/strong>, we are going to focus on the
\n red garnacha. <\/em>
\n<\/strong>This<\/em>variety requires a warm climate<\/strong> such as the one found in the interior of Spain, where it originates, specifically in Aragon. It is a late maturing variety, very vigorous, productive<\/strong> and wind resistant. It is perfectly adapted to poor and dry soils. <\/strong>At present, it is mainly grown in Zaragoza, Toledo, Navarra, La Rioja, Madrid and Tarragona,<\/strong> and in some new areas such as the Alberche Valley, in \u00c1vila. Abroad, it is found in Europe (France, Italy, Greece) and in the New World (California, Chile, Australia, South Africa) <\/strong>. <\/p>\n


\n<\/p>\n

A very versatile<\/strong> grape used for the production of red and ros\u00e9 wines, as well as cavas and sweet wines<\/strong>. In Spain it can be found as a single varietal or in coupage<\/strong>, especially in La Rioja, Arag\u00f3n and Navarra, accompanyingTempranillo<\/em>, among other varieties.<\/p>\n


\n<\/p>\n

As we announced at its launch in 2019, Petra de Valpiedra<\/a>, Finca Valpiedra <\/a><\/strong>‘s garnacha<\/strong>is a tribute to the old Rioja. This wine is made from the grafting of centenary garnacha buds on very old vines from an experimental plantation that occupies three hectares of land at Finca Valpiedra<\/strong>. The first vintage, 2016<\/strong>, was a great success, and 2017 <\/strong>has been no less so. Petra, named after the name given to the Carlos and Pilar’s maternal grandmother<\/strong>is a wine fruity, silky, very subtle, elegant and with a different profile to other Garnacha<\/em> single varietals, which perhaps have more strength but less finesse.<\/strong> This wine perfectly conveys the values that represent the idiosyncrasy of this emblematic family and its commitment to return to the origins of La Rioja.<\/p>\n

And he has many merits, among them, 93 points in the Pe\u00f1in Guide,<\/strong> 95 points in Rioja Special Report by Tim Atkin<\/strong>, 91 points in Wine Enthusiats<\/strong> and the last one has been the recognition of the prestigious German magazine
