The art of blending different varietals and terroirs, even vintages, has given rise, as in everything else, to wines of very different qualities, some of which are undoubtedly world-class, but single-varietal wines, that is, those made from a single grape variety, offer the possibility of conveying their qualities in a purer way and transmitting the characteristics of the terroir without major interference.

A bit of history

To fully understand the essence of Finca Antigua, it is essential to know the rich winemaking tradition behind it. Located in the heart of La Mancha, a wine-growing region linked to wine for centuries, the winery was established twenty years ago, although it was acquired in 1999, and since then it has stood out for the production of innovative wines that are a faithful reflection of the terroir from which they originate. When Familia Martínez Bujanda acquired the property there were already a lot of vineyards planted which, due to its age, ended up giving its name to our winery.

The art of single-varietal wines

One of the distinctive characteristics of Finca Antigua is its production of single-varietal wines. What does this mean? Quite simply, many of its wines are produced from a single grape variety, which allows their particular qualities to shine through.

Instead of blending different varieties, Lauren Rosillo, technical director of Familia Martínez Bujanda and, therefore, of Finca Antigua, decided to parcel the vineyard by varieties that are later vinified separately. This process ensures that each wine expresses the pure essence of the variety and its perfect balance, resulting in an unparalleled sensory experience for wine lovers.
