After the end of the harvest season, it is time to evaluate the results obtained in our vineyards. Fortunately, we can say that the harvest has been very positive at Finca Valpiedra, Finca Antigua and Finca Montepedroso.
According to experts, less grapes have been produced throughout Spain, but of better quality, in general terms. In fact, in La Rioja the 2019 vintage is described as historic, with results that can be very outstanding in both young wines and those destined for long aging.
In the Rioja Qualified Designation of Origin, the harvest was characterized by less compact clusters and smaller grapes, factors that indicate the maximum quality of the wines to be produced.
In addition, the extraordinary weather conditions have made this vintage unique and, although it is too early to advance results, we may be looking at a year to remember.
In the Rueda appellation, the 2019 harvest is said to be the second best in its history, with some 114 million kilos, and the results are expected to reach excellence.
The technical director of Familia Martinez Bujanda, Lauren Rosillo, has made a very positive assessment of the harvest in our three estates, highlighting the favorable weather conditions and the excellent fruit obtained in each of them.
Finca Valpiedra: balanced vintage
According to Lauren Rosillo, this may be “one of the best Rioja vintages of the 21st century“, with balance as its most outstanding feature. The year has been relatively dry, with a mild summer and some storms that have mitigated the deficit of rainfall in spring and without extreme heat, which has led to a slow ripening of the grapes.
Excellent vintage at Finca Antigua
The 2019 vintage is one of the best in the winery’s history. After the Easter rains, the spring and summer were very dry, so the rains in September have made it possible to complete the ripening of the grapes in an optimal way.

The harvest at Finca Montepedroso took place over two nights.
