Wine is also for cocktails

Although it may seem that cocktails are made only with high alcohol content, there are also wine cocktails. We discover an original way to enjoy wine, try them and surprise your friends and guests.
The word cocktail comes from the English word “cocktail”, which literally means “cocktail” or “raised tail” and was used to distinguish thoroughbreds from other horses. No one knows for sure why alcoholic mixtures are so called, but this name has become popular.
The origin of cocktails seems to date back to the 19th century. The owner of a New Orleans drugstore got into the habit of offering his friends and customers drinks prepared in an egg cup (called coquetier in French), in which he mixed a base of bitters, cognac, sugar and spices. This drink and the ways to prepare it were called “coquetier”.
Cocktails are mixtures of alcoholic beverages or other liquids and ice, usually shaken in a metal container called a cocktail shaker or mixed in a mixing glass. Although most cocktails are based on liqueurs and spirits of high alcohol content, wine can also be part of original and tasty mixtures. Here are 6 cocktail ideas that you can prepare using some of the Familia Martínez Bujanda wines:
Blackberry and Cabernet Caipirinha
For this cocktail we will choose our
Finca Antigua Cabernet Sauvignon
which, with its spicy and undergrowth aromas, will add a delicious touch to the mix. To prepare it, introduce blackberries, lime and sugar and mix until a paste is obtained. Then add crushed ice, cranberry juice, lime and orange juice, cachaça and
Finca Antigua Cabernet Sauvignon
. Shake, pour into a glass and garnish with lime and orange slices.
Crimean cocktail with verdejo
Our
Finca Montepedroso 100% Verdejo
can be a great alternative to make this delicious cocktail. It is a very refreshing and easy to prepare mixture. To do this, we introduce in a shaker a measure and a half of Finca Montepedroso with half a measure of Cointreau. Shake for half a minute and serve in a wide glass with ice and soda to taste. To garnish the Crimean cocktail you can add a cherry or some mint leaves.
Wine cocktail with strawberries
Choose Finca Antigua Viura and pour a quantity to taste in a shaker with sparkling water and mix well. Remove the stems from the strawberries and cut them into slices. To present it, we serve it in a glass adding the strawberry slices, crushed ice and a slice of orange.
Obispo Cocktail
For this cocktail we can choose a Tempranillo red wine. Our
Finca Antigua Tempranillo
will be great for you. In a shaker, mix the juice of half a lemon and the juice of one orange with a teaspoon of powdered sugar. Shake well for one minute and add ice, half a glass of wine and stir. We can serve it in a glass accompanied with slices of orange and lemon.
Queen Charlotte
We can choose
Cantos de Valpiedra
to prepare this delicious cocktail. We will need a measure of grenadine juice, a measure of lime or lemon juice and some strawberries cut into pieces. Pour the red wine (two measures) together with the grenadine in a glass with ice cubes. Fill with the citrus juice, add the sliced strawberries, stir and serve.
Orange sorbet with muscatel
For this blend, we will choose our
Infinitus Moscatel
a fresh and silky wine that combines very well in cocktails. We will need the juice of half an orange, about 150 milliliters of tonic, two balls of orange sorbet, and our wine, of course. To prepare the sorbet, pour water and sugar in a saucepan and heat until boiling, stirring continuously until it begins to thicken. At this point we remove it from the heat and let it warm. Then, mix the syrup with the orange juice and beat it well. Put it in the freezer for about four hours, stirring it every hour so that it does not become compact. In the shaker add the tonic, the juice of half an orange, our Infinitus Moscatel and stir to mix well. Pour the result into a glass to serve, add two scoops of the sorbet we have reserved and, as a decoration, we can include some cherries or cherries. Delicious!
This holiday season enjoy our wines, you can taste them alone or in tasty blends that will surprise your guests. From Familia Martínez Bujanda we wish you a Merry Christmas.
