The prestigious contest that rewards the best sommelier’s nose in Spain arrives this Thursday in Madrid to celebrate its XXIII edition at the Hotel Villa Magna. Finca Antigua will be present with its Finca Antigua Moscatel, which was a finalist in the sweet wine category.
The XXIII Edition of the Nariz de Oro will be held on June 12 and 13 at the Hotel Villa Magna in Madrid. A competition in which the 35 best sommeliers in Spain, chosen from all the semifinals held this year, will measure their strength against the dreaded ‘Black Cup’ to become ‘Golden Nose 2014’.
The Grand Final Test will take place on Friday at 5.30 p.m. and is particularly difficult as the finalists will have to guess five drinks from around the world served in black glasses, using only their sense of smell.
The sommeliers will face two tests in front of the black glass. From the first (pre-selection) will emerge the group of Finalists. In the second, the Grand Final Test, they will have to identify, without a tasting phase, the five drinks of the world (distillates, wines, etc.) contained in black glasses.
In addition to the election of the best Nose of 2014, the XXIII ‘The Best Wines of Spain’ Competition is held at the event. Scored, by blind tasting, by the same sommeliers who compete for La Nariz de Oro.
More than a hundred wines from all Spanish appellations, from Rioja to Malaga and from Valencia to Rías Baixas, will compete in Madrid to be proclaimed the best wine in their category. Among them is Finca Antigua Moscatel, the sweet wine from Familia Martínez Bujanda, which reaches the final in the category of sweet wines.
For all guests, the event has also prepared an Experimenta area, where all wine enthusiasts will be able to enjoy wine tasting, and workshops on gourmet products and their harmonies with wine, which will be held during these two days.
