[In this sense, Viña Bujanda’s vineyards are rooted in calcareous clay and ferrous clay soils.. The former, of a characteristic ochre color, come down from the Sonsierra and are typical of Rioja Alavesa and part of Rioja Alta. They are ideal for the Tempranillo variety and for the aging of wines. The ferrous-clay soils, reddish in color and predominant in areas such as the Alto Najerilla, are poor in organic matter and offer fresh reds with body and mineral nutrients, which perfectly complement those from calcareous-clay areas for the perfect balance that has historically distinguished traditional Riojas.[:][:en]In this sense, Viña Bujanda vineyards’ roots go into clay-calcareous and clay-ferrous soils.
