As with many other habits, eating patterns change with the seasons. From light refreshing dishes we turn to heartier, richer food.
Some months ago, we suggested that white and rosé wines go well with the light food we usually eat during the summer. Today we will tell you which wines you should pair with winter dishes.
Clearly, red wines are for the cold months. Their tannins dissolve the fat within meals, and they are served at room temperature rather than cold, which help keep the body warm.
Hearty meals such as stews are to be matched with more vigorous wines with a strong structure. Reserve wines from Rioja, Viña Bujanda and Finca Valpiedra, as well as our single-vineyard wine Clavis, from Finca Antigua (La Mancha), go very well with game dishes, red meat and roast beef. They also match well the stews and casseroles that people enjoy when temperatures drop.
Cantos de Valpiedra and Viña Bujanda Crianza are ideal to wash down all types of meat, but we also recommend them to accompany fish with a strong flavor. The different varietals from Finca Antigua offer a wide selection, from delicate Garnacha, Tempranillo or Merlot to their more structured wines made from Cabernet Sauvignon or Syrah grape varieties.
As to serving temperatures, reds are best served at 16 degrees. However, you can always drink them a little cooler in the summer and a little warmer in winter.
