Restaurant of the week: Casa Patas

Flamenco art in Madrid

In the heart of the capital is Casa Patas, a tavern-restaurant and tablao, a reference of flamenco in the capital, which throughout its nearly 30 years of life has hosted some of the most internationally renowned flamenco artists, such as Antonio Canales, Sara Baras or Camarón de la Isla himself.

casapatas_facadeCasa Patas is a unique establishment that adequately combines a select gastronomic offer, based on the excellent products and recipes of traditional Spanish cuisine, with a varied program of live flamenco shows. Founded in 1985 in the traditional neighborhood of Lavapies, Casa Patas has remained, since its inception, inextricably linked to the art of flamenco to become recognized, at present, as a reference point for this art worldwide.

The restaurant, located at Calle Cañizares, 10, is composed of two large rooms separated from each other: the tavern-restaurant and the flamenco tablao. The first, with direct access from Calle de los Cañizares, is located on the ground floor of a 19th century building, a large dining room with cast iron columns, Corinthian style capitals and walls full of paintings and photographs of the artists who have passed through its tablao. It also includes a large bar where you can enjoy the other brief art of Spanish cuisine: tapas.

As for the flamenco tablao, located in a separate room at the back of the premises, it hosts daily flamenco shows and also offers food and beverage service. The prestige of its tablao at an international level is due to its varied and quality programming, with a new show every week, which contributes to guarantee the freshness of the performance and to increase the motivation of the musicians, singers and dancers.

All this, together with the regular presence of established flamenco artists in the Casa Patas tablao, as a meeting point to enjoy good flamenco, which significantly stimulates the artists on stage, and usually results in authentic magical nights of duende and pellizco.

Regarding its cuisine, the quality of its gastronomic offer is based on a good selection of products, combined with the careful preparation of the best traditional recipes that make up the menu. In addition to culinary traditions, in Casa Patas we can also talk about tapas, sausages, Iberian acorn-fed ham or local cheeses. Top quality products are accompanied by a selected list of Spanish wines, including Finca Antigua Crianza and Finca Valpiedra Reserva.

Casa Patas has been distinguished by the Community of Madrid in 2009 with the “Enrique Maya” award, for its contribution to the development and dissemination of Flamenco Art, as well as for its continued work in favor of the integration of the Gypsy People.
