[There are four major meanders on the Ebro River as it passes through La Rioja. One of them, between Fuenmayor and Cenicero, two localities of extraordinary vocation and wine-growing tradition, is where the winery’s 80 hectares of vineyards are located.

Finca Valpiedra is a spectacular landscape that is distributed in three terraces that go down to the river itself, and which after years of work, our technical team has divided into fifteen different plots, with altitudes between 406 and 427 meters.[:][:en]The Ebro River creates four big meanders in its way through La Rioja. [:en]The exceptional conditions of the estate for vine cultivation are a consequence of its microclimate, influenced by the Cantabria Mountainsto the north, and by the Demandato the south, as well as a very special type of soil composed of a layer of pebbles and limestone.

With a climate somewhere between Atlantic and Mediterranean, winters are cold and long. Summers, on the other hand, warm and sunny during the day, stimulate the production of tannins and other polyphenols, which give body, color and longevity to the wine. At night, the breeze and cooler temperatures prevent dehydration of the plant and, in periods of risk of frost, the proximity to the river is our best natural protector.[With a one-half Atlantic and one-half Mediterranean climate, the winters are cold and long. [As for the soils, they have a sandy loam profile. with a surface covered with boulders and a medium level of limestone. The boulders not only give the estate its name, Valpiedra, but also the capacity of the vineyards to keep the sun warm and to help maturation, while inhibiting dehydration of the vines by preventing rapid evaporation of water on hot summer days.[:][:en]The soils are sandy with a surface of stones and a medium level of limestone.
